Undergraduate Researcher: Randy Williams
Randy Williams, a senior in Industrial Design, designed professional and personal work environments to provide maximum comfort and efficiency, thereby increasing creativity and productivity. The goal was to better meet the user's needs as well as include functions that adapt to variations of the user's needs. Randy developed usable work environments for the different needs of two types of workers, "text" people and "picture" people. Through trial and error and innovation, he combined the objects in the work spaces he designed into a compact, portable work environment. His mentors were Steve Belletire and Jinseup Shin, faculty in Industrial Design.
Randy's accomplishments include:
- 2nd Place Haggerty Enterprises "Lava Lamp" Competition
- Captain of SIUC Formula Race Car Body Design
- President of Industrial Designers Society of America Student Chapter
Randy's message: "Finding ways to improve lives has been a life-long effort of mine. By attending SIU and gaining hands on experience in classes and in independent research projects, I fine-tuned my interests and identified my talents. Through creative activities such as product design, I have found a way to communicate different ways of solving individual problems."
